In the Zen tradition, intense, silent meditation retreats are held throughout the year in which students strive for realization: seeing into one's True Nature. Literally translated, "sesshin" means to collect one's heart or mind, to return to the origin. Weekend sesshin at New York Zendo carry on this authentic tradition.

In addition to Zazen, Chanting, and Formal Meals eaten in traditional Monastic style, each day Ven. Eido Shimano Roshi presents a Teisho, a formal discourse with commentary on a Zen text. There is also an opportunity to meet with Roshi for a private interview.

Weekend sesshins begin Friday evening and end Sunday afternoon. See our Calendar and Events for sesshin dates.
